Commissioner James "Jim" Gordon is a key figure in the Batman mythos, known for his unwavering dedication to justice in Gotham City.

Gordon first appeared in *Detective Comics* #27 (May 1939), the same issue that introduced Batman. In the early comics, he was a police detective. As the Batman character matured, Gordon rose through the ranks of the Gotham City Police Department, eventually becoming Commissioner.
